چکیده

INTRODUCTION Studies have shown that low peak wall shear stress (WSS) contributes to the formation of atherosclerotic plaques [1]. Additionally, Lee et al. demonstrated that low peak WSS correlates with high atherosclerotic indices [2]. However, the magnitude of WSS in older subjects, who have a greater incidence of atherosclerosis, requires further investigation. The purpose of this study was to compare the magnitude of peak longitudinal WSS in the infrarenal abdominal aorta in subjects younger than 40 years of age and in subjects older than 60 years of age.

Study of Pulsatile Non-Newtonian Blood Flow Through Abdominal Aorta and Renal Arteries Incorporating Fluid- Structure Interaction

Background: The interaction between the blood and the vessel wall is of great clinical interest in studying cardiovascular diseases, the major causes of death in developed countries. Objective: To understand the effects of incorporating fluid-structure interaction into the simulation of blood flow through an anatomically realistic model of abdominal aorta and renal arteries reconstructed from CT...

Inferior vena caval hemodynamics quantified in vivo at rest and during cycling exercise using magnetic resonance imaging.

Compared with the abdominal aorta, the hemodynamic environment in the inferior vena cava (IVC) is not well described. With the use of cine phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and a custom MRI-compatible cycle in an open magnet, we quantified mean blood flow rate, wall shear stress, and cross-sectional lumen area in 11 young normal subjects at the supraceliac and infrarenal levels of...

Inferior Vena Caval Hemodynamics Quantified In Vivo at Rest and During Lower Limb Exercise Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Fluid wall shear stress measurements in a model of the human abdominal aorta: oscillatory behavior and relationship to atherosclerosis.

Clinically significant atherosclerosis in the human aorta is most common in the infrarenal segment. This study was initiated to test the hypothesis that flowfield properties are closely related to the localization of plaques in this segment of the arterial system. Wall shear stress was calculated from magnetic resonance velocity measurements of pulsatile flow in an anatomically accurate model o...

Acquired Infrarenal Abdominal Aortic Coarctation: Treatment with Percutaneous Self Expandable Stent

Abdominal aortic coarctation is an extremely rare vascular pathology. Its etiology can be congenital or acquired. Here we present a case of acquired infrarenal abdominal coarctation in a 66-year-old woman who complained of low back and legs pain. She had no signs of resting lower limb ischemia, with diminished distal pulses and normal blood pressure in upper and lower extremities. Magnetic reso...
